Natyanamasya
Natyanamasya was the Bharatanatyam Rangapravesham of ShriGowri Upadhya presented on 20th April 2024 under the guidance of Guru Shri Ashok Kumar, Natyanjali School of Dance.

A Rangapravesham is the debut stage performance of a student of Indian classical dance. It also signifies as the first full-length solo dance performance by the dancer after several years of training and rigorous practice.

The following photo essay contains stills from this momentous occasion, as presented by Gowri.

For a dancer, the art of getting ready is as sacred as the performance itself.
Contemplating the upcoming event and the role she plays as a dancer.
A moment of prayer before the commencement of show.                                          Instants before taking the stage.
A token of gratitude for the musicians who add onto the whole experience of the performance.
Lost in emotion.
In the spotlight.
Emerging from the light.
Emitting power, poise and the fierceness of Goddess Durga.
The symphony of musicians and the beats of the dancer’s feet creates rhythmic beauty.
Conveying a story using a combination of mudras (hand gestures) and abhinaya (facial expressions).
Portrayal of pride, vigour and symmetry are few of the important aspects of a dancer’s abhinaya.
This posture tests the balance and control the dancer possesses.
Overwhelming emotions on realising the conclusion of the event.
The concluding pose. Centre stage and in the dimming lights.
Rangapravesham is a culmination of the combined efforts of the Guru, dancer, musicians, lighting, sound and the audience.
